I know of someone that is claiming High rate mobility/ High Rate care DLA
and Incapacity benefit even though there is nothing wrong with him at all.
This guy manages to pull off what can only be described as oscar winning
performances when ever he has to see anyone from either his doctors, or the
DWP. He openly boasts about this to a small circle of people, and finds it
funny how easy it is to pull the wool over their eyes!
What he's claiming to the DWP is that he is unable to walk and falls over
frequently, and needs care in his everyday life to carry out the most basic
of activities, including cooking meals. The reality is, the guy has his own
business, that involves heavy lifting (which he does with no problems) and a
lot of driving, he also regularly takes part in weekend activities that no
one claiming any rate of DLA would be able to do. He, again, openly boasts
to a select few people how he's screwing the system, if you were to actually
see this guy you would very quickly work out there is absolutely nothing
wrong with him.
There are problems with reporting this guy though, at best he can be
described as a bit of a nasty piece of work, if this guy even got the
slightest idea that he had been reported, or who reported him there would
probably be hell to pay for the person/people that did. I'm assuming that
when you make a report to the DWP when it says anonymous it means anonymous?
The problem is though, when they say to this guy "you've been reported" he's
liable to just give all that know about him grief. The other problem is the
DWP would need to tread carefully with this guy, he is very aware of anyone
that's just hanging around his street, and if he sees them he would put on
the oscar winning performance again and keep it up if he thinks he's being
watched. But his weekend activities, as they are in public it would be very
easy to catch the guy out.
Does anyone know if the DWP will claim to the person that's been reported,
that is was just some sort of random check to make sure he was still
entitled to benefits? A lot of people are annoyed with what he's doing but
everyone is worried about what reprisals might come back if this guy is
reported and actually knows he's been reported.
As this guy gets high rate care he is exempt from medicals at the moment, so
he's never going to be caught out like that. He is aware the game is over
once he gets transferred over to ESA, he's already admitted that he's not
going to be able to pull the wool over their eyes as easily.
Anyone any experience of anything similar?
