I know of someone that is claiming High rate mobility/ High Rate care DLA
and Incapacity benefit even though there is nothing wrong with him at all.
This guy manages to pull off what can only be described as oscar winning
performances when ever he has to see anyone from either his doctors, or the
DWP. He openly boasts about this to a small circle of people, and finds it
funny how easy it is to pull the wool over their eyes!

What he's claiming to the DWP is that he is unable to walk and falls over
frequently, and needs care in his everyday life to carry out the most basic
of activities, including cooking meals. The reality is, the guy has his own
business, that involves heavy lifting (which he does with no problems) and a
lot of driving, he also regularly takes part in weekend activities that no
one claiming any rate of DLA would be able to do. He, again, openly boasts
to a select few people how he's screwing the system, if you were to actually
see this guy you would very quickly work out there is absolutely nothing
wrong with him.

There are problems with reporting this guy though, at best he can be
described as a bit of a nasty piece of work, if this guy even got the
slightest idea that he had been reported, or who reported him there would
probably be hell to pay for the person/people that did. I'm assuming that
when you make a report to the DWP when it says anonymous it means anonymous?
The problem is though, when they say to this guy "you've been reported" he's
liable to just give all that know about him grief. The other problem is the
DWP would need to tread carefully with this guy, he is very aware of anyone
that's just hanging around his street, and if he sees them he would put on
the oscar winning performance again and keep it up if he thinks he's being
watched. But his weekend activities, as they are in public it would be very
easy to catch the guy out.

Does anyone know if the DWP will claim to the person that's been reported,
that is was just some sort of random check to make sure he was still
entitled to benefits? A lot of people are annoyed with what he's doing but
everyone is worried about what reprisals might come back if this guy is
reported and actually knows he's been reported.

As this guy gets high rate care he is exempt from medicals at the moment, so
he's never going to be caught out like that. He is aware the game is over
once he gets transferred over to ESA, he's already admitted that he's not
going to be able to pull the wool over their eyes as easily.

Anyone any experience of anything similar?

Before we married last year I used to come down to my (now) wife's home and
sometimes stay over for the odd night (we are both on Pension Credit and she
also on state pension). Someone grassed us up to the DWP and we had to
attend the JC for an interview. No action was taken against us, but we
could not find out who grassed us. I obviously have no idea if they are
always that good at protecting informants.

As for surveillance, if they want to really observe someone they are pretty
good at their jobs.

As this kind off allegation may end up in court the DWP are not going to
pretend it was pot luck and mislead the court but they will not reveal
the source if you which to remain annonymous.

Or you make an anonymous report with no detail that can lead to you, he
will have no reason to suspect you. If he's as open about this as you
say and peeing people off then there will be lots of suspects.

Provided you can provide enough detail to get the DWP interested (name
of his business and if he plays sports when and where etc) they should
have little difficulty confirming the rest themselves by discrete
observation/recording before confronting him at an interview.

You can report suspicion of fraud via the following

https://secure.dwp.gov.uk/benefitfraud/

Give as much information as you can and leave Section 3 blank if you
wish to make an anonymous report.

They mostly use ethnic types to carry out surveillance, the last person you
would suspect is a Rasta with dreadlocks working for the DWP. Believe me, if
they follow him, he will not suspect a thing. They work in teams that stake
out all possible routes he is likely to take so he will not see anyone
hanging around near his house. Then they follow him part of the way so as
not to arouse any suspicion, then the stake out starts from that location
and so on until they arrive at his place of work, then they stake that out,
then they will spend several weeks observing him and everyone who works
there to make sure they are not all at it. They are very clever at what they
do, nothing is left to chance and they will catch him if he is a fraud like
you say.

If you ring the benefit fraud hotline from a public call box, nobody can
identify you.

Lol, Alex you devil you, yes I think we should leave him alone, he could be
a future Minister for unemployment. OTOH anyone who is that poorly and can
work like a trojan should be praised and held as a shining example to us
all.

Sour grapes. Leave him alone.
You seriously think that this guy should just be left alone?
He claims high rate care, high rate mobility (DLA) and income support with
the extra disabled premiums because he's supposed to be sick. The truth is,
he works throughout the week running his own buiness which earns him plenty
of money 'on the side' and takes part in weekend activities that no one on
DLA or any sickness benefit would be able to do. He even uses his DLA car in
connection with his business! If that lot isn't taking the 'you know what',
then really I don't know what is!

Thanks for the other replies so far, the answers have been very useful.

He's the reason why IB, ESA and DLA are under such attack too many
people who don't need them getting them.

He's probably the worse as this sounds like deliberate deception but
many others exaggerate.

The OP has every right to be sour as does everyone who pays tax, he may
only be stealing a few pence from me but he's doing it from everyone.
